Seatrees and Surftech Partner to go Climate Positive and Restore Coastal Ecosystems

At Surftech, we are excited to announce our partnership with SeaTrees, a nonprofit organization dedicated to regenerating ocean health and reversing climate change. As part of this partnership, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by supporting SeaTrees' reforestation projects and reducing our plastic usage. Additionally, we will donate a portion of our sales to SeaTrees to help fund their mission.

Our commitment to being good stewards of the ocean aligns with SeaTrees' dedication to planting, protecting, and restoring blue carbon coastal ecosystems. By restoring multiple coastal ecosystems and sequestering more carbon emissions than we create, we can have a positive impact on the ocean and the life it supports.

Through our partnership with SeaTrees, Surftech will support the protection of the Southern Cardamom REDD+ project in Cambodia. This project contains over 2000 hectares of pristine mangrove forest and helps to protect and enhance a further 50,000+ hectares of mangroves that directly surround the project boundary. Blue carbon mangrove ecosystems are highly effective at sequestering carbon and can sequester up to 5 times more carbon than tropical rainforests. We will also support the planting of mangroves at the SeaTrees Mida Creek project in Kenya, which restores over 100 hectares of degraded mangrove forest within the Malindi Watamu National Marine Park and Reserve.

 Mida Creek Mangrove Project

SeaTrees' sustainable development approach creates jobs and livelihoods to maintain healthy ecosystems for future generations. We are excited to work together on these projects as well as new projects as our companies grow.

"We are thrilled to work with Surftech to measure their carbon footprint and help them become Ocean Positive. This is an industry shifting moment as one of the largest distributors of surfboards and paddleboards takes responsibility for their climate impact. Together, we can make a significant impact on the health of our oceans and effectively turn the tide on climate change."
-Kevin Whilden, Executive Director and Co-Founder of SeaTrees

As a company, Surftech is committed to making a positive impact on the ocean and our planet. Our partnership with SeaTrees is a significant step towards achieving this goal. We look forward to working with SeaTrees and other organizations to continue making a difference in the world.

SeaTrees is a program of non-profit Sustainable Surf that plants, protects, and restores blue carbon coastal ecosystems around the world to reverse climate change. Coastal ecosystems restored include mangrove forests, kelp forests, seagrass, coral reefs, and coastal watersheds. SeaTrees uses a sustainable development approach that creates jobs and livelihoods that will maintain these healthy ecosystems for future generations.
