Description

Turn a losing hand into a winning hand with the Wildcard. The Special Projects Division Wildcard 3 is an updated version of Waynes Rich’s classic shape. Still a great nose rider and proficient turner, the board maintains many of the attributes that helped Wayne win three consecutive Malibu Club contests, including a full template with a wide nose and wide crescent tail. The crescent tail, initially hand drawn by Joel Tudor, allows water to flow over and out the center of the board’s tail, pushing the tail down and creating lift in the board’s nose. Slight updates to the board's nose concave also assist in noseriding. The board can be broken down into three planes. One in the front for noseriding, one in the middle for trim, and the last plane near the tail for turning. The Wildcard features a rolled bottom, that mellows in the back third of the board. The rolled bottom increases control and turn initiation. If you are looking for a longboard to make you surf more and better the Wildcard 3 is for you. The Wildcard is a true tip-to-tail classic style longboard that allows for a traditional approach to wave riding. *Flax color may vary slightly.

*Does not include fins.*

Read This if You’re Coming from Poly Boards

"This is nothing like a poly noserider. Quite possibly the furthest from it. Here are my remarks as an intermediate to advanced surfer. - Does not like noseriding, unless you’re in the pocket on clean waves, or have a 10” pivot fin (9’4” board). - Does not do well in chop. Clean waves only, or know that you’ll experience some feedback from the board. - Doesn’t seem to cut through the water well in chop. Well, see above statement. - It DOES turn magnificently well in clean and slight surface texture conditions. It’s a mix of high performance and modern log. - It can noseride well, but it’s unstable. You have to be in the pocket for it to be comfortable. Honestly I bought this to try something new, and it’s progressing my surfing. I don’t think I’ll own it for longer than a year, but I love the shape and it is a great setup!"

Great construction

"I've only had the board for a few weeks, so I can't dive deep into performance yet. . . but so far I'm enjoying it. The board arrived delivered to my house with no issue or damage, and I find the flax composite to give it a beautiful "earthy" look. I was worried this board would feel too light or "tuflitey" for lack of a better word, but it feels like a conventional glass job in terms of weight, but more robust. I was curious and weighed it with a fin at 17. 7 lbs (the 9'9"). Compared to my conventional log at 21 lbs, it's slightly lighter, but not so much that it will chatter in strong winds. Overall, very pleased with my purchase."

Interesting take of how I

"Interesting take of how I came to own this extremely user friendly tabla. It was an interview with Kai Mcphillips after winning his heat in WSL QS event in Pismo recently, where he promoted a Surftech of all things! I have followed the LB tour for sometime and it's the 1st time that has happened. I went down the rabbit hole and watched all the available content online. The interview with Wayne Rich, the demo by Cody Craig in Carolina waves, etc. Ulimately, it was the crescent/moon tail that sold me (the same tail that Kai Salas won the WSL with last year). It is by far the best noserider, for me any way (61 y/o, 185lbs). The NFT (natural fiber tech), is a great eco choice as well, where 50% of the glass volume is fiber! I paired it with a 10" Christiansen/Captain Fin skeg, and I could not be happier with my purchase."

Beautiful board

"Fast and safe shipping, board arrived intact. The board is “beautiful” the color, the finish, the shape. I’m a beginner surfer but a tend to nose dive more on this board than my other foamie. I need to spend more time on this board to truly enjoy its potential."

Goldie

"I call this board Goldie. A little bit of Magic! My experiance was excellent. Thanks"

Just what I was hoping for

"I'm not a great surfer. In fact, I'm just okay. I needed a performance longboard to act as a do it all for our Oregon coast choss, the Wildcard 3 is definitely fitting the bill performing perfectly in the best and worst of conditions."

Brent E. (5/5)

Beautiful log

"Super fun log for small days in town. The new glass job looks super sick and fitting for the shape and feel like a traditionally glassed board under my feet."
